Then and Now
When Murphy recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, the community support for the event was outstanding. The citizens were eager for more festivities, and Murphy Maize Days was launched! Since its inception, attendance has grown and nearly doubled each year. Over 3,000 revelers attended in 2009.
Murphy Maize Days 2010 kicks off with Murphy’s A’Maize-ing 5K/Fun Run on the morning of Saturday, September 25. The winning combination of the popular live bands, exciting family-friendly activities, and “the best fireworks show in the county” could very well triple the attendance!
Why Maize?
Murphy’s history as a farming community made the choice of Maize Days easy. The community and surrounding areas’ crops were feed corn and cotton.
