Please join us in celebrating Murphy Maize Days with a Scarecrow Decorating Contest. Businesses, service organizations, HOAs, and individuals may participate. Whether scary or funny, silly or ridiculous, this is your chance to express yourself! Use your imagination, discarded old clothes, hats, gloves, and any other accessories you’ll need to make your scarecrow unforgettable! You may decorate your scarecrow however you like. Be creative, but please keep them tasteful! The City of Murphy reserves the right to eliminate a scarecrow from the contest if it is deemed inappropriate.
CONTEST IS FREE TO ENTER!!!!! Complete the Online Contest Registration Form by Thursday September 22, 2011, to participate. The contest will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2011, during Murphy Maize Days. All scarecrows must be completed and set up between 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011. The City will provide overnight security.

Please read the following rules before completing your entry.
Judging: Judging begins at 11 a.m., with awards presented at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011.
The judges are volunteers and are not employed by the City of Murphy. All judging decisions are final. Unclaimed prize money will be mailed to winners no later than September 30, 2010.
Location and Mailing Address: City of Murphy Municipal Complex, 206 North Murphy Road, Murphy TX 75094.
Materials: As all scarecrow entries may remain on display outside until September 25, 2011, and may be subjected to severe wind, snow, and/or rain, their construction should be durable and all ornamentation securely attached. City of Murphy reserves the right to remove any scarecrow that does not hold up to natural elements. NO GLASS OR MAJOR APPLIANCES.
Armature: Each scarecrow must have a vertical support such as wood or metal for the body. This support is needed as each scarecrow will either be staked in a hay bale provided for display or freestanding on the ground.
Delivery of Entries: Entrants are responsible for bringing their fully assembled scarecrow to Murphy Maize Days between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. September 23, 2011. Murphy Maize Days personnel will be available to assist entrants in location of designated area.

Restrictions:
- The City of Murphy will not be held responsible for materials or items used to decorate the scarecrows.
- It is understood that the City of Murphy may use photographs of, stories about, and the actual scarecrow entries themselves as well as all information contained on the entry form for publicity and promotion on the event.
